CHARLOTTE -- James Simpson Glasscock, 75, of Charlotte, died Oct. 27, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family. Jim was born April 10, 1932, to Earl Palmer and Ollie Simpson Glasscock in Rock Hill. He grew up on a dairy farm.
After graduating from Rock Hill High School, he served in the United States Coast Guard for three years. In 1957, he married Margaret Anne Faris.
Jim graduated from Clemson University in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked briefly for Newport News Ship Building Company in Newport News, Va. and Douglas Aircraft Company in Charlotte. He spent most of his career at Southern Dyestuff Company in Mount Holly, N. C., later named Sandoz and then Clariant, where he served as plant manager.
Jim was a member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, where he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Charlotte West Rotary Club for many years, where he served as President and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award.

He was an avid golfer and belonged to Cramer Mountain Country Club and Beech Mountain Country Club. He also enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. He delighted in giving tomatoes to his friends.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Anne; two sons, James Simpson Glasscock Jr. of Toronto, Canada and Thomas Gregory Glasscock and his wife, Joy of Pineville, N. C. He is also survived by three sisters, Jean Lesslie and husband, Herman Lesslie of Columbia, Barbara Glasscock of Charlotte and Olivia Glasscock of Winnsboro; and sister-in-law, Patricia L. Glasscock of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl Palmer Glasscock Jr.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, Charlotte. Officiating minister will be Rev. Gary Bryant.
Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Neely's Creek A. R. P. Church Cemetery, Rock Hill.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers will be William H. Ligon Jr., Earl P. Glasscock III, James C. Lesslie, William H. Lesslie Jr., James E. Faris and Donald T. Faris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Dellinger, Ned Lyerly, Tommy Godley, Bob Gabriel, Chuck Overbeck, Claude Savage and Bill Leitch.
