RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- James Edward Blake, the son of the late Walter Blake Sr. and Corine Johnson Blake, entered into eternal rest with God on Wednesday, November 14, 2007.
James was a friendly, loving, outgoing person. He never met a stranger. At an early age he professed his faith in Christ and attended Hermon United Presbyterian Church.
He attended school in York County and was a 1964 graduate of Emmett Scott High School. Upon graduation, James enlisted in the United States Navy. He retired from the Navy after 23 1/2 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He later retired after 17 years of service with the Hurrupa Unified School District of Riverside, Calf. as a bus mechanic.
He leaves to cherish with fond memories his wife, Mary Selena Page Blake of Riverside, Calf.; a step-son, Adrian Scott Page (Arlevia Patrice) of Winnsboro; one grandson, Adrian James Pope of Winnsboro; sisters Marene B. Graham of Charlotte, Kathryn B. McMullen (Robert) of Rock Hill, Frances B. Martin, and Dorothy B. Ward, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Patricia Sullivan (Melvin) and Alice Blake, both of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Walter Blake Jr. of Rock Hill, Armester B. Blake (Rena) of Charlotte, Frankie Blake, Donell Blake (Pamela), Alfonso Blake, Andrea Blake, Kenny Blake and Jeffery Blake, all of Washington and Connell (Wanda) of Alabama; sisters-in-law, Robbie P. Massey (Theodore Jr.) of Lancaster, Margaret P. (Stevie) Anderson of Rock Hill and Willa T. Page of Stone Mountain, Ga.; aunts, Emma Hope, Ruth Page, Louise (Lee) Williams and Thelma Page of Rock Hill and Essie Yates of Brooklyn, N.Y.; uncles, James Mills (Doretha) of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. John T. McCoy will officiate. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park. The body will lie in state one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Clemons-McCray Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Kathryn B. McMullen, at 1768 King Drive, Rock Hill.
