MYRTLE BEACH -- Mr. Floyd Van Antwerp, 89, of Grandhaven Blvd., formerly of Hillcrest Drive, Elkin, N.C., passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Waccamaw Hospital. He was born Feb. 14, 1918, in Congress Park, Ill., to Leslie and Almina Dette Walker Van Antwerp.
Mr. Van Antwerp was retired from Wilkes Journal Patriot and was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Boy Scouts of America Old Hickory Council and served with several other troops for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Hunter "Sally" Van Antwerp; brothers, Frank, Richard and Walker Van Antwerp; a son, Robert Van Antwerp; and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Van Antwerp.
Survivors include four sons, Floyd Van Antwerp Jr. and wife, Emily of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Richard Van Antwerp of Boone, N.C., Peter Van Antwerp and wife, Cathy of Rock Hill, S.C., and David Van Antwerp and wife, Patty of Elkin, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Becky Van Antwerp; six grandchildren, Tom Van Antwerp, Jamie Smith, Michael Van Antwerp, Tyler Van Antwerp, David Van Antwerp Jr., and Katy Van Antwerp; and one great-grandchild, Cylie Van Antwerp.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Elkin Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Brian Rummage. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
