ROCK HILL -- Marlene Shugart, 58, of 408B Lucerne Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born June 9, 1949 in Chester, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Andrew James and Helen Ross Lipford Shugart. A graduate of Chester High School, she received her BA degree in French from Winthrop College and her Masters Degree from USC-Upstate. She was an Adult Education Teacher for the Spartanburg Adult Literacy Center. Marlene was a very active member of Evangel Cathedral and was also very active with local charities.
Survivors include two sisters, Adrene S. Sanders and her husband, Joe of Chester and Marilyn S. Stoddard and her husband, Bill of Union, S.C.; one niece, Meredith L. LaRussa and her husband, Josh of Chester; three nephews, William Bryson Stoddard of Charleston, S.C., and James J. Sanders and Chase A. LaRussa, both of Chester.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at Evangel Cathedral, with the Rev. Jan King and the Rev. David Powell officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday at the church. A committal service and burial will be held following the service at 4 p.m. in Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Jeff Williams assisting.
