GOODE, Va. -- Vann Joshua Deas Jr., of Goode, Va., son of the late Vann J. Deas Sr. and Bessie Lucille Deas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Lynchburg General Hospital as a result of complications following surgery.
Born in Canton, Ga., Mr. Deas' family moved to Rock Hill, S.C., during his childhood. He graduated from Clemson University and served in the United States Air Force. Following service, Mr. Deas was employed by General Electric, where he fulfilled a variety of positions throughout the United States and Milan, Italy. His career concluded in Lynchburg and he retired to Bedford County.
Mr. Deas was an active member of Brookhill Wesleyan Church, Promise Keepers and the Gideons. Within "Walk to Emmaus", he served as a sponsor. In addition, Mr. Deas was appointed by Governor George Allen to the Board of Explore Park, and he served on Liberty University's Board of Regents.
Mr. Deas is survived by his bride, Mabel "Sunny" Deas; his beloved daughter, Christie Deas Evans; and his adored granddaughter, Chloe Evans. Other family members include his sister, Martha Hamlin of Hickory, N.C.; and brothers, John Deas of Dallas, Texas and Earl Deas of Rock Hill, S.C.
The family received visitors Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Diuguid Funeral Home in Lynchburg. The funeral service was held at Brookhill Wesleyan Church in Forest on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
