CHESTER -- Geraldine Oakes, 87, of Canandaigua, N.Y., formerly of Rexford, N.Y. and Chester, S.C., passed away Dec. 5, 2007, at her daughter's residence in Chester after a brief illness.
Gerry was born in Endicott, N.Y., Dec. 19, 1919, the daughter of B. Harry and Marion Chrysler. Gerry married Stanley Oakes on Aug. 16, 1941, raising four daughters. Stanley died in 1999.
Gerry graduated from SUNY Delhi as a dietician, working as cafeteria manager in the Shenendehowa and Mechanicville School Systems. She loved doing crafts, sewing, teaching ceramics and was an avid china painter. Gerry was also the first woman to serve on the Amity Reformed Consistory as a deacon and was former treasurer of Fishing Creek Church in Chester.
Surviving are four daughters, Carol Ford and Cathy Stephenson of Chester, Susan and her husband, Guy Howard of Rexford, N.Y., and Janet Pontera of Canadaigua, N.Y.; a sister, Betty Dubois of Endicott, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Amity Reformed Church in Vischer Ferry, N.Y. on Saturday, Dec. 8. Interment followed at Vischer Ferry Cemetery.
