McCONNELLS -- Mr. David Gist, of 162 Fairway Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the home of his daughter.
He was born June 25, 1931, to the late John Gist and Carrie Beaty Gist in Chester County, S.C.
David attended York County public schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War conflict. He joined New Zion Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined New Hope United Methoidst Church, First Baptist Church (South Fallsburg, N.Y.), St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church (Charlotte, N.C.), Mount DoWell Baptist Church (McConnells, S.C.) and finally back to New Zion Baptist Church. He served his churches in a variety of postitions such as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, Deacon, Usher, Gospel Chorus member and Hymn Choir leader. He was a member of Parker Funeral Home staff.
He is survived by his wife, Mary F. Gist of McConnells; sons, Dennis Taylor (Joyce) of Rock Hill, Fred Wylie of New Haven, Conn., and Guy Kelly (Dee) of Charlotte; daughter, Daisy ARant of Steelton, Pa., Deloris Davis (Larry) of Rock Hill, Sandra Miller (Tyrone) of Rock Hill, Rosiland Talford (James Moore) of Rock Hill, Deitrice McCrorey (Ronnell) of Rock Hill, Barbara Kennon (Johnny) of McConnells and Alzenia Morris of Charlotte; sisters, Rosena Simpson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Annie Gaston of Charlotte, Helen Hayes of Charlotte, Hazel Stevens (Robert) of Rock Hill and Carrie Allsop (Cescil) of Rock Hill; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with Pastor J.T. Barber officiating, the Rev. Donnie D. Dye delivering the eulogy and Bishop B.R. Wilson, the Revs. George H. Lowry Jr., Scotia Miller, Dr. John T. McCoy, David Walker and Donald L. Trent II. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Dec. 12, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parker Funeral Home and other times at the home and at 363 Scoggins St., Rock Hill, S.C.
