MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- Mrs. Betty Doris Elkins Haynes, 77, of 152 Lynn Road, widow of Mr. Raymond Oscar Haynes, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mrs. Haynes was born May 14, 1930 in York County, S.C., to the late George Washington and Jennie Elizabeth Shugart Elkins. She was retired from Spencer's Corporation after 36 years of service and was a member of the Shelton Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeanne Tucker of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jewal and Ann Haynes of Hickory, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jonathan Haynes and wife, Lyvonda of Mount Airy and Meredith Haynes of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Gillie Jones of Rock Hill, S.C., and Cammie Blackwell of York, S.C.; and a special nephew, John Haynes and wife, Barbara and their children, Belton, James and Beth. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at Shelton Church of the Brethren, with services conducted by Rev. Hal Somerfrank. Mr. Kenneth Hollingsworth and the Rev. Steve Clark, with burial to follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, N.C., where her body will remain until time to be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service.
