ESCONDIDO, Calif. - A memorial service for Mr. Joe Draper Robbins, Lt. Commander, USN, was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.
Mr. Robbins, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.
Born in Chester, S.C., Mr. Robbins had lived in Escondido, Calif. since 1962. A graduate of Clemson University, he served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years and was a fighter pilot in World War II and in the Korean War. Mr. Robbins was a Fighter Ace and received the Distinguished Flying Cross with Star and Air Medal with Seven Stars awards.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Robbins; five children, Joe D. Robbins Jr. and his wife, Ginger of Houston, Texas and Thomas M. Robbins and his wife, Lauri, Steven Robbins and his wife, Kathy, Anne Robbins-Fleck and her husband, Rick and Daniel W. Robbins, all of Escondido; one brother, Hawk Robbins of Chester, S.C.; and one sister, Annie Sue Murray of Anderson, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
