LANCASTER -- Mrs. Rita King Johnson, 58, of 1013 Myers Circle, Lancaster passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at her home. She was born June 27, 1949, in Lancaster, a daughter of Henry Clay King and the late Mamie Williams King. She was married to Robert E. Johnson. She was retired from Wachovia as City Executive and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She served on numerous community boards including University of South Carolina at Lancaster Educational Foundation; Lancaster Breakfast Rotary, where she was past president and a Paul Harris Fellow; Communities in Schools; Junior Achievement; HOPE of Lancaster and Lancaster Community Foundation. She also served as past chairwoman of Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce and past President of Lancaster County Council of the Arts. She was the fundraising chair for Lancaster County Friends of Scouting. She was also a member of the Brooklyn Springs Improvement Council, the capital campaign committee for York Technical College, a den mother for St. Luke United Methodist Church's Cub Scouts and a United Way volunteer.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Johnson will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kyle Randle officiating. Burial will be in the St. Luke United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson; her father, Henry Clay King of Lancaster; three daughters, April Mathis and her husband, Craig of Lancaster, Becky Smith and her husband, Allen of Fort Lawn and Carol Johnson of Lancaster; her son, Martin Adams and his wife, Jackie of Lancaster; a sister, Ann K. Pardue and her husband, Jerry of Heath Springs; and eight grandchildren, Jordan Adams, Caitlin Adams, Clay Mathis, Caroline Adams, Hannah Mathis, Geoffry Forbes Corey Smith, and Dustin Owens. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Williams King and her son, Thomas Marvin Adams Jr.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at St. Luke United Methodist Church and other times at the home, 1013 Myers Circle, Lancaster.
