ROCK HILL -- Joseph Newton Thompson Sr., of 2132 Dunlap Roddey Road, passed away Dec. 27, 2007, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Thompson was born July 11, 1910, a son of the late John J. and Alice Polk Thompson. He was a farmer and retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing after 47 years of service. Mr. Thompson was a member of Mt. Holly United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Gaston Thompson; a daughter, Alice T. Ratterree; a son, Bobby Dunlap Thompson; two grandchildren, Robbie and Andy Thompson; and a great-granddaughter, Kendall Strozier.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph "Joe" N. Thompson Jr. of Rock Hill, James "Jimmy" Thompson and wife, Bobbie of Rock Hill, Donald "Don" Thompson and wife, Norma of Rock Hill; a daughter, Dorothy "Dot" Simmons and husband, Ray of Fort Mill; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Holly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Daniel S. Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
