LAKE WYLIE -- Chalmers "Cham" C. Johnson Jr., died at home Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2008. He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Gastonia, N.C., the son of the late Chalmers C. Johnson Sr., and Louise Wilson Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at Clover ARP Church on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
Mr. Johnson served as a naval aviator during WW II. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award in 1971.
After retirement from Duke Power Company, he served as an Asst. Fire Chief with the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Clover ARP Church, where he served as elder and as a Wednesday prayer luncheon volunteer.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Roberta "Tom" Hedrick Johnson of 57 years; sons, Chalmers C. Johnson III, William D. Johnson, James T. Johnson (Laura), Robert E. Johnson (Alisa) and Samuel W. Johnson (Angela); and one daughter, Frances L. Johnson. He is also survived by five grandsons, James R. Johnson, David W. Johnson, Logan S. Johnson, Robert Braden Johnson and Graham W. Johnson; and one granddaughter, Mariah C. Johnson.
