YORK -- James W. "Bill" Barnette, 93, of Hwy. 324 died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Philadelphia United Methodist Church. The Rev. John M. Williams III and the Rev. Paul Ballard will be officiating. Burial will be at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
A native of York, S.C., Bill was a son of the late William Henry Barnette and Ida Smith Barnette . He was a member of Philadelphia UMC Church of York. He worked in Textiles at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing. He remained in cattle farming through the mid 1990's. A source of pride was he and his brother Smith's service as ship builders in the ship yards of Glen Bernie, Maryland from 1939 to 1945. Most of the time he welded on the S.S. Rock Hill Victory.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mozelle Carson Barnette of York; son, James W. (Jim) Barnette and his wife, Janet, of Conway, S.C.; two grandsons, James Vernon Barnette of Conway, S.C., and William M Barnette of York; three sisters, Sara Emma Cain of Winterpark, Fla., Aleen Shissler of Dillsburg, Pa., and Evelyn Clyde Atwell of Nashville, Tenn.; and brother, C. Smith Barnette of Rock Hill, S.C. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margaret Lucille Barnette and Mary Frances Wheeler.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 5, 2008, at Bratton Funeral Home.
