CHESTER -- The funeral for Eva McKeown Darby will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Lowrys. Burial will be in the Zion Presbyterian Cemetery.
Mrs. Darby, 87, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. Born in Chester County on May 14, 1920, she was the daughter of Albert Edgar McKeown and Janie McWaters McKeown. When she was 5, her family moved to Hightower Hall Plantation, which is now a part of Historic Brattonsville. She spent her childhood and young adult life at Hightower until her marriage. She and her husband then moved to Lowrys where she resided on the family farm until her death.
She graduated from high school in York and the School of Nursing in Columbia. She worked as a nurse at the Pryor Hospital, Chester County Hospital and Chester County Nursing Center for more than 40 years. She was a faithful and active member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Lowrys.
Survivors include a son, Ed Darby and his wife, Elizabeth Gayle; five granddaughters, Cathy McCarter, Angela Rollins and husband, Ron, Robyn Welborn and husband, John D., Melinda Abercrombie and husband, Jamey, and Beth Blackwell; two grandsons, Billy Brakefield and wife, Leslie, Tommy Darby and wife, Jessica; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Guy Darby Jr.; a daughter, Becky Darby Brakefield; and a son, Billy Darby.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Robyn Welborn at 836 Elm Road in Lowrys.
