ROCK HILL -- Mr. John Lee Singleton, 39, of 111 Millstone Lane, Rocky Point, N.C., left this earth on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, to join his mother, Virginia Leigh Garmon Singleton. He became a guardian angel to his sons and daughter, Chet Alexander Singleton-McBeath (14) of Charlotte, Sydney Oswin Singleton (8), Zachary Clifton Singleton (3) and Virginia Leigh Singleton (6), all of Rocky Point. The "bear hugs," "kissy monster" and "wrestling king" will always be remembered.
His love for his father, Jerry Milton Singleton of Catawba, S.C., always stayed strong. As so was the love for his cousins, Pam Jones of Rock Hill and Sandy Rowe and Rick Hunt, both of York, S.C.; and aunts, Patsy Gardner of Concord, N.C., and Francis Smith of York.
Anyone who had a conversation with "Johnny Rocket" was sure of two things: his love for his children and his love for fishing. Even though he had a God-given talent for building, repairing or creating anything that was mechanical, it was unmatched by his talent and love for being on the water.
The smiles always came out in the never-ending tall tale fishing stories that were more fact than fiction. The teacher and leader on school field trips, Riley's Creek Baptist Church RA trips or just the mid-night gigging trips, will be missed. He continues to send hugs and kisses to his long time love, wife and best friend, Gidget Cline, through his children.
The memorial service will be 3 p.m. today, January 9, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732, with the Rev. Roland Dry officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Riley's Creek Baptist Church, 19845 NC Highway 210, Rocky Point, NC 28457.
