LANCASTER -- Mr. George Neal Hodges, 90, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at Lancaster Convalescent Center. He was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Guyton, Ga., a son of the late James Barney Hodges and Maud Eleanor Pharis Hodges. Mr. Hodges was retired Director of Communications for Springs Industries. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the men's Bible class. He served his church as a member of the Board of Stewards, the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee as well as other leadership positions. Neal loved sports, especially golf, but also enjoyed tennis and baseball. He enjoyed investments and was a member of the Andrew Jackson Investment Club. He also loved reading and politics. He was a member of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hodges will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Batson and the Rev. Jeff Diller officiating.
Mr. Hodges is survived by his wife, Betty Hovis Hodges; two sons, James H. Hodges and his wife, Rachel, of Columbia and Mark H. Hodges and his wife, Janet, of Covington, Ga.; a daughter, Harriett H. Diller and her husband, the Rev. Jeff Diller of Chambersburg, Pa.; a brother, Dr. Carl V. Hodges of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Laura Hodges Simpson of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Chris Hodges, Sara Hodges, Adam Diller, Michael Diller, Luke Hodges and Sam Hodges; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Isabella Hodges.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Social Hall of the First United Methodist Church and other times at their home, 1125 Hawthorne Road, Lancaster.
