ROCK HILL -- Mr. Charles Harrell "Sugar" Chiles, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Hays officiating.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Chiles was a son of the late Thomas Harrison Chiles Sr. and the late Kate Harrell Chiles. He attained a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina in 1961 and ran a private law practice in Rock Hill from 1966 until 1996. From 1970 until 1973, he was Rock Hill City Court Solicitor and from 1974 until retirement in 1996, he was Rock Hill City Court Judge. Mr. Chiles was a U.S. Marine Corps Captain during the Korean War and was a member of St. John's UMC, the American Legion Post 34 and the VFW. Mr. Chiles enjoyed being with his family and friends, watching baseball, fishing and going to the beach. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Chiles is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Chiles of Rock Hill; his children, Pat Chiles and his wife, Melissa, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Joe Chiles and his wife, Terri, of West Columbia, S.C., and Cathy Chiles of Rock Hill; his brother, Tom Chiles of Beaverton, Oregon; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.
