SMYRNA -- Betty Whitesides Faulkner, 87, of 1010 Main Street, died Sunday, Feb. 03, 2008, at her home in Smyrna.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Smyrna A.R.P. Church. The Rev. Jim Mitchell and the Rev. Andy Putnam will be officiating. Burial will be at Smyrna A.R.P. Church Cemetery.
A native of Smyrna, Betty Faulkner was a daughter of the late William Lester Whitesides and Frances Roddey Whitesides. She was the widow of William "Bud" Meek Faulkner. Betty served her church, Smyrna A.R.P., as the organist for 33 years, a deacon, and a past president of the Womens Synodical Association of the Southeast. She was the secretary and part owner of Faulkner Well Drilling, was the town of Smyrna's treasurer for 40 years and was a public school teacher after her graduation from Winthrop College.
She is survived by four sons, William Christopher Faulkner of Smyrna, Robert "Bob" Whitesides Faulkner of Smyrna, Phillip Davis Faulkner of Hickory Grove, William Meek Faulkner III of Smyrna; three daughters, Kathy Faulkner of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Faulkner Berry of Hickory, N.C., Betsy Faulkner Braly of York; sister Frances Whitesides Fitz of Hickory, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Smyrna A.R.P. Church on Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, from 2 to 3 p.m.
