ROCK HILL -- Mr. William Edgar Shillinglaw Sr., 78, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to his heavenly home Feb. 12, 2008.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Inspiration Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roland Dry officiating and Dr. W. E. Garrison assisting. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.
Born in York, S.C. on Feb. 25, 1929, Edgar was the son of the late Luther S. Shillinglaw and Annie Carroll Shillinglaw. He was educated in the York Schools, was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and worked at the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company, Sealtest Dairies of Rock Hill, and retired from Springs Industries in 1994. He enjoyed working a big vegetable garden so he could give it to his friends, church family and neighbors. He was a member of Inspiration Baptist Church serving as a deacon, trustee, and assistant Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ann Harris Shillinglaw; one son, William Edgar Shillinglaw Jr. of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Beverly S. Kirkland and husband, Jackie and Terri S. Grant, all of Rock Hill; five grandchildren, Jason Kirkland, Heather Worthy and Amber Grant, all of Rock Hill, Kim G. Turner of Gaffney, S.C., and Eddie Shillinglaw of Tacoma, Wash.; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Luther Shillinglaw of York, Bobby Shillinglaw and Eugene Shillinglaw, both of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Harper of York and Dorothy McMurray of Fayetteville, N.C. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lavenia S. Lineberger.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.
