GREENVILLE -- Allen Thomas Adams, 85, of Greenville passed away quietly in his sleep Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at home.
He was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Madison County, Ga., a son of the late Lloyd and Elizabeth Allen Adams. He graduated in 1939 from Rock Hill High School and entered Clemson College in 1940. At the end of his junior year he was called into military service along with cadets from various military schools. He later returned to Clemson and graduated in 1945.
His textile career began at J. P. Stevens Dunean Plant. Next he was employed at Callaway Mills in La Grange, Ga. and later retired from Johnson and Johnson in Cornelia, Ga. as plant manager. In 1991 he retired a second time from Phillips Fibers in Greenville.
Mr. Adams was an Eagle Scout and worked with older Boy Scouts in Greenville and in La Grange, Ga. He taught Youth Sunday School and served as a Deacon in First Baptist Church in Cornelia, Ga. He was also a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church and the American Legion Post No. 3, Greenville.
Allen leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, La Vera Adams; two sons, Dana Adams of Atlanta, Ga. and Bryan Adams and his wife Tina of Black Mountain, N.C.; grandsons, Richard and Samuel Adams of Cleveland, Ga. and Christopher Adams of Tempe, Ariz.; granddaughters, Kimberly Adams of Atlanta, Ga. and Mindi Adams of Las Vegas, Nev.; and great-granddaughters, Breanna, Sarah Elizabeth and Madison Adams.
Funeral Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 at Mauldin First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wade Leonard officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday prior to services at the church. Interment will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 in Grandview Memorial Park, Rock Hill.
