ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Anna Beth Sturgis, 87, of 1112 Evergreen Circle, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill.
She was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Simmonsville, S.C., a daughter of the late Reverend J. Foster and Ellie Lupo. After moving several times throughout the South Carolina Methodist Conference as the daughter of a Methodist minister, she met, courted and married her beloved husband, T. Johnson Sturgis. Anna Beth was fortunate enough to accompany her husband, Johnson to his varied postings during World War II. After the war, they returned to Rock Hill, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Sturgis was a teacher who first taught at the Veterans School in Rock Hill. Once the school closed, she taught at Oakdale Elementary and Sullivan Junior High School for 33 years. After retiring, she taught mathematics at York Technical College and later joined her husband at Moore Furniture Company.
Anna Beth is survived by her husband, T. Johnson Sturgis; her daughter, Ellie; a sister, Bobbielu Woodward of Lilburn, Ga.; and an extended family of very close friends, relatives, and her beloved dog, Cricket. Her older daughter, Sibyl Ann Sturgis, of Lynchburg, Va. died in 1996. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Eleanor Sanders of Dothan, Ala., and Jimmie Davis of Macon, Ga.

The funeral will be held at Saint John's United Methodist Church in Rock Hill on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. A graveside service at Laurelwood Cemetery will follow.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.
