SMYRNA, Ga. -- Mrs. Jessie Lucretia "Jessie Lou" Carlton Brook, 86, passed away at Tranquility Hospice in Smyrna, Ga., on March 13, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Louie & Louise (Durham) Carlton and the widow of Jesse W. Brook.
A native of Union Point, she had moved to Smyrna to be near her only son. She had also lived in Rock Hill, S.C. for many years, active in the Oakland Baptist Church, teaching a children's Sunday School class and involved with the Sunbeams. While living in Union Point, she attended the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brook attended Union Point High School, where she played basketball. She also attended Massey Business School in Atlanta and worked with her husband for a number of years and then as a sales clerk at Belk's.
Survivors include her son, John Brook of Smyrna, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Carlton of Atlanta and Virginia Brook of Charleston, S.C.; five nieces and nephews, Barry and DeAnn Johnson, Sonny and Louise Massey, Louie and Wanda Carlton, Barbara Sherrer and Matt and Susan Brook.
Visitation will be held today, March 15, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Bert Mathews officiating. Callaway Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
