MONROE, N.C. -- Mr. Jerry L. Carnes, 75, of Monroe, N.C., passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center - Union, N.C., following several years of declining health. He was born Sept. 4, 1932, in Union County, N.C., to the late Howard Vinson Carnes and Josephine Allen Carnes. He was also predeceased by a brother, Ted Lamar Carnes.
He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After 10 years of service, he enrolled at King's Business College and graduated with honors with an Associate's degree in Accounting. He retired in 2000.
Mr. Carnes is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Beverly Clontz Carnes; and his children, John Howard Carnes (Donelle Starnes Carnes) of Wingate, N.C., Karen Carnes Holt (Kenneth Dickenson Holt) of Rock Hill, S.C.; and Laura Carnes Nettles (Jason Edwin Nettles) of York, S.C. He is also survived by grandchildren, Forrest Lindsey Nettles, 17, Jacob Tyler Carnes, 13, ten-year-old triplets, Ethan, Elijah and Zane Theron, Madelyn Beth Nettles and Rachel Elizabeth Carnes, both three. He is also survived by a sister, Phyllis Carnes Garris, of Rock Hill, S.C.
The family will receive friends at Gordon Funeral and Cremation Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, N.C., on Thursday, March 27, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted by Elder Larry Austin at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Monroe on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 11 a.m.
