GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Mrs. Kandy Rheuark Conroy, 61, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Wesley Long Memorial Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, with her loving husband and family by her side.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, 1118 North Elm Street, Greensboro, N.C.
Kandy was born in Conway, S.C., on Dec. 7, 1946, the daughter of Mr. Thomas A. and Mrs. Smitty Rheuark, the oldest of three children. She shared a childhood full of love and adventure in the waters of Murrell's Inlet with her sisters, Barbara R. Mann and Jessie R. McLaurin, both of Rock Hill.
Her father and a younger brother, Thomas Arthur Rheuark III, welcomed her with loving arms in her passing.
Never miss a local story.
Kandy "Roo" is survived by her husband, Michael Conroy; two daughters, Julie Landsperger of Ocean Isle and Jaye Salerno of Greensboro; and stepson Craig Conroy of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; her mother, Smitty Rheuark of Rock Hill; six beautiful grandchildren, Brennan, Reade, Caleb, Taylor, Sophia and Sydney; nieces, Addie McLaurin of Folly Beach and Kate McLaurin Groomes of Rock Hill; and nephew, Garth Mann of Raleigh, N.C.; also, our dear friend and angel, Annette Speaks, who loved and cared for her in her last years.
A strong, beautiful, fearless woman, Kandy taught everyone she loved that life could be met head on with dignity, humor and a home-cooked meal. She was a breast cancer survivor who handled her battle with a grace and strength we will always admire.
The family requests memorial contributions in Kandy's memory be made to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 L.B.J. Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244; or the Alzheimer's Association, Western N.C. Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
