ROCK HILL -- Mr. John Russell "Rusty" Jennings, 38, passed away on April 5, 2008.
Born Jan. 10, 1970, to John Gary and Margaret Russell Jennings in Rock Hill, Rusty grew up a devoted son, loving brother and lifelong friend to all who knew him. Rusty was the grandson of Roy and Mildred Russell of Rock Hill and John and Thelma Jennings of Fort Mill. A graduate of Northwestern High School (1988) and the University of South Carolina (1992), Rusty was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He worked with Barton Services until becoming disabled in 1997. An avid Gamecock, Tarheel and Chicago Bulls fan and World War II buff, he enjoyed basketball, traveling, reading, fitness training, and spending time at the beach. A lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, he is remembered as a handsome, loving, faithful and happy man who handled the gradually debilitating effects of Huntington's Disease with grace and peace.
Rusty is survived by his mother and paternal grandmother; a sister, Janet Jennings Hamilton of Columbia and her husband, Scott Hamilton, four nieces and nephews: Chloe Elise, John Dane, Margaret Wallis and Alec Thomas; cousins, Cheryl Farah, Christine and Eric McCraven (and their children, Mason and Blake), George Duncan and Crystal and John Lytle; and aunts and uncles, Barbara and Eddie Farah, Doris Duncan, and Roy and Darlene Russell. His extended family includes his wonderful and compassionate care team at the C.M. Tucker Nursing Facility in Columbia, S.C., who cared for him since the summer of 2005, as well as Dr. Ruth Abramson, Dr. Miroslav Cuturic and Hospice Care of Tri-County in Columbia, S.C.
The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill today, April 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill on Wednesday, April 9 at 3 p.m.
