CATAWBA -- Mr. James Odell "Jack" Barber, 79, of 747 Hall Spencer Road died April 12, 2008, at Providence Hospital N.E., in Columbia, S.C. He was born Aug. 29, 1929, in York County, to the late Addie Bell Anderson Barber and Robert Barber.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War and was a member of Red Oak AME Zion Church.
He is survived by daughter, Betty Joann Perry of Rock Hill, S.C.; sons, Joe Dean Williams (Amy), Kenney Strafford (Louise) of Rock Hill, Thomas Barber of Buffalo, N.Y., and Johnny Williams of Rock Hill; children he raised, Virginia Menter of Chester, S.C., and Jackson Gilbert of Rock Hill; sister, Leitha Moffatt of Catawba, S.C.; sister-in-law, Pearlina Barber and special sister-in-law, Martha Gaston, both of Rock Hill; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Horace White officiating. Burial will be at Mount Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery.
