SMYRNA -- Eleanor Whitesides Jones of 1565 Charles Whitesides Road in Smyrna, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Charles P. Whitesides and Evelyn Robbins Whitesides of Smyrna. A graduate of York High School and Erskine College with a B.S. degree, she was employed with the Clemson Extension Service for 26 years.
She served as an Extension Home Economist in Lexington and Richland counties and later assumed the position of Senior County Agent in Kershaw County. Following her move to York County, she became York County Extension Economic and Community Development Extension Agent.
During her professional career, she received a number of awards on the local, regional and state level and was selected to present at a National Family Strengths Conference. Her awards were in recognition of exemplary achievement in the field of Family and Consumer Science and her work with 4-H youth.
She was a member of the Kings Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution in York.
She is survived by her husband, Dawson "Buck" Jones of the home; two daughters, Laura Jones Mitchell of Rock Hill and Robbin Jones Wardlaw of Winnsboro, S.C.; her sons-in-law, Kevin Mitchell and Michael Wardlaw; two grandchildren, Savana Wardlaw and Cameron Mitchell; and a sister, Myrtle Whitesides Petty of Clinton, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Pressly Whitesides Jr.
She was a member of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in York.
Services will be held 11 a.m. at Smyrna Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on April 19, 2008. Burial will be at Smyrna A.R.P. Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at her home, 1565 Charles Whitesides Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
