ROCK HILL -- Mr. Joe William Brown (aka Joe Brown), 62, of 737 S. York Avenue, entered into eternal rest at Piedmont Medical Center on Friday, April 25, 2008. God called him by name and he answered.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Funeral Home in Rock Hill.
He was the son of the late Louis and Leila Barber Brown. Joe was preceded in death also by his two sisters, Altheia Brown and Viriginia Cureton; one brother, O.W. Barber and his wife, Luella Ruth Brown.
At an early age he attended Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church. He attended Edgewood Elementary School and graduated from Emmett Scott High School in 1964. Joe was employed for 19 years as a shipping clerk and a shop steward at Jack Josephson Wallpaper Co. in Jersey City and he sang with the Thrashing Wonders of New York City and other well-know groups. He was a truck driver.
Upon his passing, he leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Vonne Maurice (Brenda) of Rock Hill and Jermaine Pernell (LaCarla) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one brother, Larry; one sister, Delois; eight grandchildren; four nieces; seven nephews; two aunts, Nancy Bell Massey and Allene Barber; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home and other times at 1424 Springview Road in Rock Hill.
