DALZELL -- Mrs. Mabel Correane Black Starnes, 89, formerly of 1879 Oakdale Road, Rock Hill, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at her daughter's home.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.
A native of Chester County, S.C., Mrs. Starnes was a daughter of the late George H. Black and the late Mattie May Peay Black. She was the widow of George Starnes, a member of the Lando Church of God and formerly worked at Industrial Mill.
Mrs. Starnes is survived by her sons, Alvin W. Starnes and wife, Narcie and Benny Starnes, all of Rock Hill; her daughters, Carrie Mae Starnes Bell and husband, Walter, of Dalzell, Sarah Starnes Hefner and husband, Frederick (Bill), of Chester and Vivian Starnes Bennett of Rock Hill; her sister, Carrie Luke of Rock Hill; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Starnes was preceded in death by eight children; seven brothers; and three sisters.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, April 29, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 355 E. White St., Rock Hill and other times at the home of her son, Alvin Starnes, 730 W. Rambo Road, Rock Hill.
