ROCK HILL -- Mr. Alton Allen Brown, 79, of 2556 Blue Road died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. today, May 30, 2008, at Inspiration Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roland Dry officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park on Hollis Lakes Road.
A native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Mr. Brown was a son of the late Elijah Brown and Meta Parker Brown and his stepmother, Sarah Brown. He was a member of Inspiration Baptist Church and worked for Martin-Marietta Materials in Rock Hill as a Crane Operator. He was especially proud and loved his family. He loved gardening, fishing and all animals, especially "Pete" the squirrels.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Sallie Hall Brown of the home; his sons, Marvin Brown and wife, Barbara, of Catawba, S.C., and David Brown and wife, Peggy, of Rock Hill; his daughters, Glenda Brown and husband, Bob, of Spartanburg, S.C., and Margie Grant of Rock Hill; his sisters, Lucille Johnson and Hazel Johnson, both of Roxobel, N.C., Dora Mae Harrell of Suffolk, Va., Myrtle Porter of Richmond, Va., Pat Nash of Fountain, N.C., and Bernice Bailey of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 p.m. prior to the service on May 30, 2008, at Inspiration Baptist Church and other times at the home.
