ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Gerlean Barber, of 222 Green Street Plaza, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her home.
The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. George H. Lowry Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
She was born in York County, a daughter of the late Newton and Idell Gill Barber. At an early age, she joined Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and formerly served in the hymn choir and the usher board. She was also a former member of the Together As One hymn choir. She was employed with Winthrop University and Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company as a custodian. She was the widow of Robert Barber Sr.
Surviving are her son, Robert L. Barber Jr. of Rock Hill; two grandsons, Michael Brice and Stepfaun McCleave, both of Rock Hill; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Minnie McCullough (John), Betty Brice, Dorothy Archie and Frances Reddic, all of Rock Hill (she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Alice Feely); three brothers, Eddie Barber Jr., and Newton Alfonzo Barber (Paulette), both of Rock Hill and Charles Barber (Christine) of Albany, N.Y.; brother-in-law, James Barber Jr. (Helen) of Rock Hill; two aunts, Hattie Witherspoon of Rock Hill and Catherine Gill of Greensboro, N.C.; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mrs. Barber may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home and from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service Sunday at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of John and Minnie McCullough, 3082 Collins Road, Rock Hill.
