CHARLOTTE -- Ruth Whitaker Belk, 86, much beloved mother and grandmother, died Sunday June 1, 2008, at Charlotte Health Care Center.
Born January 18, 1922, in Mount Holly to Herbert and Annie Whitaker, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years James Hubert Belk Sr; two sisters, Ruby Walters and Margaret Helms; and two grandchildren, Bobby Belk and Tracy Brockway.
Mrs. Belk leaves behind three loving children, James M. Belk, Jr and wife, Nancy, of McConnells, Kenneth Belk of Monroe and Joyce Bain and husband, Mike, of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Mike Belk, Sonia Hoffman, Sandy Mathis, Paul Cook and Abbie Byers; and nine great-grandchildren. She loved being with her family and beautiful flowers. She was a member of Shady Brook Baptist Church.
The family of Mrs. Belk would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Charlotte Health Care Center for the love and care of their mom for the last four years.

The funeral service for Mrs. Belk will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday June 4, 2008, at Shady Brook Baptist Church with the Rev. George Sherman officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.
