ROCK HILL -- Conrad Hohing Jr., First Lieutenant, USAF (Ret.), 86, of Westminster Towers died on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 India Hook Road, Rock Hill. The family will greet friends after the service at 1:30 p.m., in the community room at Westminster Towers.
Mr. Hohing was born in Lonaconing, Md., on March 5, 1922, to Conrad Hohing Sr. and Florence McAlpine Hohing. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. His career was in chemical sales. Mr. Hohing proudly served his country in World War II, flying 14 missions as a B-17 pilot assigned to the 8th Air Force, 91st Bomb Group. Among the many medals he earned, he received two Air Medals and two Purple Hearts. He was truly a military hero of the "greatest generation."
Mr. Hohing was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Gibson Hohing.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Conrad III and Sandra Hohing of Fayetteville, N.C., Keith and Linda Hohing of Mint Hill, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Justin Blickensderfer of Mableton, Ga.; seven grandchildren, David Hohing of Baltimore, Md., Molly Medinger of Asheboro, N.C., Matthew Hohing of Fayetteville, N.C., Amy Makepeace of Mableton, Ga., Julie Latham of San Francisco, Calif., Heather Pressley of Matthews, N.C., and Lisa Hinson of Indian Trail, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; and by a very special friend to him and his family, Mrs. Marcene Hayes of Rock Hill.
