CLOVER -- James Edward Andrews, 78, of Clover, S.C., died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Harold Hutchison and the Rev. Brenda Bynum. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Mr. Andrews was born June 15, 1930, in Gastonia, N.C., to the late Henry F. and Madge Styers Andrews. He attended Gastonia schools and graduated from Gastonia High School. He was employed in utility construction with the public works department of the City of Gastonia for many years and in public works for the City of Mount Holly. He worked as a field inspector for a construction company out of Raleigh, N.C ., and later was self-employed.
Mr. Andrews was an active member of Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Piedmont Daylily Club, where he served as president for many years and was the senior exhibition judge. He also was a member of the American Hemerocallis Society.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Albert F. Andrews and Howard Andrews and sisters, Becky A Hullender and Rachel Andrews.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Nadara H. Andrews; daughters, Rev. Janet A. Henson of Baker, W.Va., Anita A. Mitchell and husband, Gregg and Linda A. Poley and husband, Frank, both of Charlotte, N.C., and Nancy A. Bryant and husband, Eddie, of Clover; grandchildren, Steven E. Henson Jr. of Clover, James Henson and wife, Monica, of Gastonia, N.C., Erin M. Williams and husband, Andy, of Harrisburg, N.C., Neil Mitchell, Jeffrey Poley and Dana Poley, all of Charlotte, N.C., Andrew Tench of High Shoals, N.C., and Jonathan Tench of Clover; great-grandchildren, Anna, Natalie and Jacob Henson of Gastonia and Hollie and Skylar Tench; brother, Col. George Andrews, USAF Ret. of Anniston, Ala.; and sister, Madge A. Hatcher and husband, Leon of Gastonia. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Lily M. Andrews as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.
