MACON, GA -- MSgt. Larry Hughes, USMC, 58, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at Andersonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
MSgt. Hughes was born in Seneca, S.C., to the late Claude Alton and Janie Ruth Keasler Hughes. He had lived in Middle Georgia for nearly 20 years. MSgt. Hughes was an active part of the Upson-Lee High School ROTC and a long time recruiter for the United States Marine Corps. He was of the Baptist faith and was devoted to his country with 24 years of service in the Marines for which he was highly decorated with many medals and honors.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Maples-Hughes of Lizella; brother, Alton Lynn Hughes and wife, Lennie, of York, S.C.; sister, Sandra McAlister-Flack and husband, Mike, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; daughter, Allyson Jana Haldi and husband, Kyle; five grandchildren; god-son, Eric Housman and wife, Katie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Bart Ashley Hughes.
