ROCK HILL -- Mr. Manuel Godoy, 90, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mr. Godoy was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of Ebenezer ARP, where he belonged to the Second Mile Club in Rock Hill. He was an Elder at Armstrong Presbyterian Church in Gastonia, N.C., where he lived for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate in WWII and Korea. He was a member of the WWII Veterans Last Man Club in Gastonia, Post Chaplain, VFW Post 9337 in San Antonio, Texas and Chaplain of NARFE Chapter 1180 in Rock Hill.
Mr. Godoy is survived by his loving daughter, Sylvia and husband, Richard Ayers, who were his caregivers; his daughters, Sandra Boylan of Bonne Terre, Mo., Stephanie Godoy of San Antonio, Texas; his sons, Glenn Godoy of Houston, Texas and John Godoy of San Antonio; two sisters, Amelia Rangel and Elvira Grande, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; one brother, Robert Godoy of Corpus Christi; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Godoy will be best remembered by his warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. He was a man of great faith and professed in his life. He enjoyed the Rock Hill YMCA and the York County Library.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, July 12, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill. Services will take place in San Antonio, Texas at Roy Akers Funeral Chapel and burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
