CHARLOTTE -- Mr. Robert Neil "Bob" Williams, 78, of Charlotte, passed away July 18, 2008, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at McEwen-Mint Hill Chapel. A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Mullis officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
Bob was born November 14, 1929, in Rock Hill, S.C., one of eleven children of the late Charles Lee Williams and Mamie Pope Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Carlos Lee Williams, Ralph Daniel Williams, Charles Lee Williams Jr., James Carroll Williams, and Kathleen Pope Belue. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during the Korean War. He was the founder and president of Bob Williams Specialty Co. from 1961 until 2006. Over the years, he was involved in his church community and was very devoted to his family. He endured many health problems during his life and faced each one with great determination and perseverance. Throughout his life, he was the strong leader of his family, a wonderful husband and father and he will be greatly missed.
Mr. Williams is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jean Hegler Williams; four children, Janet Stilwell (Tommy) of Monroe, Vicki Blackwell (Milland) of Indian Trail, Pamela McManus (Darren) of Monroe, and Ted Williams (Marcia) of Stallings; grandchildren, Nadia Blackwell and Trevor and Courtney Williams; siblings, Leonard Cobb Williams, Richard Gerald Williams, Heyward Eugene Williams, Nannie Jeanette Norton, Thelma Lee Hammond and Dennis Kent Hinson, all of Rock Hill; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Jack Fincher.
