ROCK HILL -- Jane Frances Whitaker entered into Eternal life on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, after a short but valiant battle with cancer.
A memorial service celebrating the wonderful and inspiring life of Jane McCann Whitaker will be held on Monday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, with Father John Giuliani officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road. Mrs. Whitaker was born in 1924 in Providence, R.I., to the late Francis and Mary McCann. She was the loving wife of William T. Whitaker and a dedicated and devoted mother and grandmother to 10 children, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Raising 10 children was a challenge but Jane did it lovingly and with a great sense of pride. She was vigilant in never missing any of her children's many and various activities, whether they were sports related, choral performances, dance recitals or school plays. Involvement in the lives of her children was what Jane loved most in life - both as they were growing up and later in life as they each raised families of their own.
After raising her children, Jane worked for America West Airlines for many years in Phoenix, Ariz.
Never miss a local story.
Survivors include her husband, William Whitaker; her brother, Francis McCann Jr.; and her 10 children, William Jr. of Akron, Ohio, Joseph of Phoenix, Ariz.; Michael of Hudson, Ohio, Stephen of Charleston, W.Va., Jane (Guissinger) of Fort Mill, S.C.; Paul of Cape Cod, Mass., Katherine (Jafarian) of San Antonio, Texas, Charles of Los Angeles; David of Columbus, Ohio; and Susan (Mikulay) of Milwaukee, Wis.; along with many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews and great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Anna McCann Mahoney.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Rock Hill Funeral Home, 135 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill.
