A 15-year-old Lewisville High School athlete and cheerleader was killed Saturday evening in a two-car collision north of Great Falls.
Catherine Elizabeth Fowler, of Richburg, played softball and was a varsity cheerleader at Lewisville High, where she would have been a junior this fall.
She also was active in the youth group at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Great Falls.
Fellow Lewisville High cheerleaders and members of Mount Zion Baptist's TEAM 412 youth group will act as honorary pallbearers at Fowler's funeral on Tuesday.
Never miss a local story.
Around 4:45 p.m., the teen was turning at the intersection of S.C. 97 and S.C. 901, known as Mountain Gap Road, when an oncoming car struck her 1997 Honda four-door, authorities said.
Fowler was pronounced dead at the scene, said Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the Highway Patrol said, and the driver in the other car was not hurt.
Troopers plan to reconstruct the crash scene as part of the investigation, said Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the Highway Patrol.
Friends started a Facebook page to remember Fowler, known by many as "Cat." She was 10 days away from her 16th birthday.
"Such A Young Beautiful Soul," one message read. "We Miss You Catherine."
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
