Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer's Palmetto Tomorrow Foundation gave York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant 50 fans to use for Operation Cool Breeze. The initiative has been delivering free fans to those at risk of heat-related illnesses.
Bryant received the fans at a press conference Thursday, along with the Rev. Ronal King. Bryant and King were honored by Bauer with a Palmetto Patriot award, the highest recognition South Carolina's lieutenant governor can give.
Deputies often see first-hand the problems summer temperatures pose for the elderly, the ill and the very young, Bryant said. Heat stroke can become a life-threatening condition.
"The operation's been very successful in the past," Bryant said. "The fans make life a little more comfortable for those less fortunate."
Never miss a local story.
The fans delivered Thursday are part of Bauer's Senior Comfort Program, made possible through donations to the Palmetto Tomorrow Foundation.
