An apparent armed robbery inside a car in Rock Hill left one man dead and another in critical condition, police say.
Anthony Whitlock, 23, of Lucky Lane died at Piedmont Medical Center from a gunshot wound, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said.
Whitlock was in a car with his uncle, a 42-year-old Rock Hill man, when police say he was shot in the head by a passenger they had picked up at Friedheim Park. They had gone to the area of Baker Street and Orr Drive.
The surviving victim was shot in the shoulder, according to Rock Hill Police reports. Police have not released his name. He was in critical condition at Piedmont Medical Center on Wednesday.
No arrests had been made by Wednesday, Lt. Brad Redfearn said.
Police were called to Piedmont Medical Center around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday after two men who had been shot arrived at the hospital, Redfearn said.
The survivor told police he drove his nephew to Friedheim Park, where they picked up another man in his early 20s. That man's name and further description hasn't been released.
The surviving victim said he didn't know that man, but Whitlock did, the report states. They drove from the park to Baker Street near Orr Drive.
While there, the man they picked up at the park pulled out a black revolver and shot Whitlock in the back of the head, the report states.
He ordered the other victim, who was driving, to grab money from Whitlock's pockets and give it to him, the report states. Then the suspect shot the driver in the shoulder.
The suspect fled with an unknown amount of cash, and the man drove to the hospital. The vehicle was in front of the emergency room when officials arrived.
The incident remains under investigation, Redfearn said.
Whitlock had been convicted of felony drug possession charges and a weapons charge, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
