The Indian Land Warriors continued their march through the Class AA state playoffs with an 81-67 win over Woodruff on Saturday on the hot shooting of junior Terrell Rogers and sophomore Hayden Sawyer.
Rogers had 35 points and Sawyer dropped in 20 points to lead Indian Land. Senior Jarrell Robinson added 13 points in the win.
Warriors coach Nate Smith said his team really held their composure and didn't panic at times, when they easily could have.
"Everyone stepped up tonight," he said. "It was a team effort."
Indian Land will now face the winner of the Eau Claire/Broome game next Wednesday in the third round of the playoffs with the winner getting a date in the Upper State championship at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville next Saturday.
Rogers scored 14 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter and hit six 3-pointers in the game. As a team, Indian Land hit 11 from beyond the arc.
The Warriors had another big fourth quarter, the second of the playoffs, to expand on their 57-44 lead after three periods.
Indian Land dropped in 24 points in the final quarter, as the two teams traded baskets to start the final period.
The Warriors held the ball a lot to start the fourth quarter to run time off the clock, but Woodruff pulled within 11 points at 65-54 with about four minutes left in the game.
However, an 8-0 run by Indian Land spurred by two big 3-pointers from Rogers and a basket by Robinson, gave the Warriors the room they needed.
Indian Land then made that lead a 20-point advantage at 77-57 with just under two minutes to go.
In the third quarter with Indian Land leading by 20 at 48-28, Woodruff made a 10-0 run.
Smith had a simple message for his team, yelling out, "anyone what to play defense?"
"We knew they had some big men down low," Smith said. "We had to play defense. That was the key."
Woodruff's Caleb Smith scored 12 of his 13 points in the third quarter, mostly from easy rebounds and lay-ups to spur the run.
