Sophomore guard Kelia Shelton, a former standout at Northwestern HS, has been dismissed from the Clemson women's basketball team due to a violation of team rules.
Lady Tigers coach Itoro Coleman made the announcement on Friday. Shelton was to be one of just five returning players for the Lady Tigers in 2011-12.
Shelton appeared in 30 games as a freshman, starting seven contests. She averaged 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in her first season.
"I have met with Kelia Shelton and she will be leaving the team effective immediately due to a violation of team rules," said Coleman. "We wish Kelia the best in the future."
Clemson played St. Augustine's College on Friday and opens the regular season next Friday with a home game against Davidson at 5:30 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
