It's just three games into a lengthy basketball season.
But the Rock Hill Bearcats have broken down barriers with the team's best start in six years.
With a convincing 82-59 road victory Tuesday night against Chester, the Bearcats are off to their first 3-0 start since 2005.
"Being 3-0, it is another step towards where we want to be," Rock Hill coach Eric Rollins said. "We just have to keep getting better and continue to take one game at a time."
Never miss a local story.
Rock Hill took control from the opening tip and blended a shutdown defense with a hot shooting touch.
Guard Jamel Jones scored six of his team's first 10 points and Jaylen Reid connected on a 3-point jumper to put the Bearcats in control 13-2. Jameston Gallman's two interior baskets broke the early Cyclones drought.
But that did little to cool off Rock Hill, which led 25-4 after one quarter. Led by O.D. Mills' 10 points in the second quarter, Chester did find an offensive spark. Rock Hill, however, was able to maintain a good offensive flow.
Forward Jaleel Scott netted a jumper and added another basket on the interior, giving the Bearcats their biggest lead at that point, 43-16.
Rollins said winning in Chester is never an easy task.
"This is a tough place to play and our guys had to be able to withstand their run, which they did make," he said.
At one point, Chester pulled within 20 but could get no closer.
"I felt that we did a good job distributing the ball tonight t and getting everyone involved in the offensive flow," Rollins said.
Chester coach Andrew Dean said the early hole was just too much to overcome.
Rock Hill "did a good job in taking us out of our sets," Dean said. "But the difference in the first game and this one is that the guys came out with more fight and determination."
Jones, who sat most of the fourth quarter, led four Bearcats in double figures with 16 points. Mills paced the Cyclones with 16.
