4-Hers bring home state honors
Local 4-Hers attended the 45th annual state 4-H Congress July 15 through 18 at the Hendrix Student Union at Clemson University in Clemson. This year's theme was "007: License to Succeed."
The 4-Hers, ages 14 to 19, were accompanied by 25 county staff and volunteers. The York County delegation members are: Elizabeth Chapple and Jordan Bennett of Clover, Laura Deas of York and Katelin Hinnant and Rachel Pullin of Rock Hill.
Elizabeth received a $500 scholarship and was one of 10 4-Hers selected to represent South Carolina at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta in November.
Never miss a local story.
Laura and Katelin were the recipients of the Clemson Presidential Tray award and a $1,000 scholarship. The highest state award is given to a 4-Her who has been chosen for excellence in projects and involvement in their local communities.
The South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Program uses a learn-by-doing approach, the involvement of caring adults and the knowledge and resources of Clemson University and the land grant university system to empower youth to become healthy, productive and contributing members of society.
