A York man was fatally shot late Tuesday night in Rock Hill, according to Rock Hill police.
Lionel Arsenio Chiles, 21, of 1578 Sandy Hill Road in York, was shot once in the neck during a fight at 1206 Calhoun St., according to a written statement from the Rock Hill Police Department.
Chiles was transported to Piedmont Medical Center, where he died shortly thereafter, the statement said.
Close to midnight, Chiles approached and confronted a man, the statement said. Chiles “apparently attacked the second individual,” and both fought inside a vehicle, the statement said. During the fight, Chiles was shot, the statement said.
The second individual “appears to have acted in self-defense in shooting the victim,” the statement said. The man, who was held following the incident, has been released, the statement said.
“The York County Solicitors Office has reviewed the details of the incident and concurred with police officials to withhold charges at this time,” the statement said.
The statement said this is Rock Hill’s seventh homicide.
A press conference on the shooting will be held this afternoon.
