Springs Global will lay off 465 workers at the Grace Complex in Lancaster County to move weaving operations to South America, the company announced today.
The layoffs are expected to be completed early next year, when equipment that is being shipped to the South American plants are up and running.
There will be 1,035 employees left at Grace, a plant off S.C. 9, close to the Chester County line, that processes bedding fabrics and makes sheets and pillowcases.
“It is increasingly difficult to make products competitively in the U.S. due to severe pricing pressures from Asian competitors, which is why we must shift more capacity to our low-cost and modern facilities in South America,” Crandall Bowles, co-chairman of Springs Global, said in a statement.
The company announced plans to reduce its manufacturing capacity at the Grace Complex in June. Springs announcement today gives the number of workers affected and the timetable of the layoffs.
