Rock Hill’s Ed Currie hoping to turn pepper fame into fortune

In November of 2013, Ed Currie’s “Carolina Reaper” pepper was officially named the world’s hottest chilli pepper by Guinness Book of Records. Now, two plus years later, Currie hopes to turn that fame in fortune with a global business and Fortune 500 customers. He wants to grow, process and ship his peppers all from Fort Mill, South Carolina.

The Winthrop University athletic department welcomed freshmen at the "ROCK THE HILL" event at the coliseum Saturday. Thousands of students gathered to dance, play games and meet the university's athletes. During the event, students shined the flashlights on their cell phones and waved them for a social media video.
