Catawba man dies in motorcycle wreck
CATAWBA -- A 19-year-old Catawba man died Friday when he lost control of his motorcycle, authorities said.
Johnathan Ryan Stikeleather died on the scene from head and chest injuries, York County interim Coroner Sabrina Gast said.
Around 7:10 p.m., Stikeleather was driving east on a 2006 Honda motorcycle on Firetower Road near Castle Heights Middle School in Rock Hill, according to Lance Cpl. Ron Johnson of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
"He ran off the right side of the road and struck a raised curve," Johnson said. "The bike went down, and he was ejected."
Stikeleather, who was wearing a helmet, hit his head on the road, Johnson said.
Officials believe Stikeleather traveled between 60 and 65 mph. The speed limit for that area is 45 mph, Johnson said. So far this year, four motorists have died on York County roads, and one person has died on Chester County roads.
