PINEVILLE, N.C. -- Pineville, N.C., police arrested a Rock Hill man Thursday in connection with the slaying of a nurse's aide, whose body was found Wednesday night in the parking lot of the hospital where she worked.
It was unclear late Thursday what Jesus Rangel, 26, was charged with. Police did not return calls from the Observer, and Mecklenburg County jail records had no listing for him.
Virginia Yvonne Sanchez, 23, of Fort Mill was found dead in a car in the parking lot of Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville, where she had worked since December. She appeared to have been strangled, police said.
Rangel turned himself in to the Rock Hill Police Department at 3:10 p.m., Lt. Jerry Waldrop said.
"He said he was wanted in Pineville," Waldrop said. "He knew he was wanted in connection to this."
Rangel was arrested on a fugitive warrant and taken immediately in front of a judge, Waldrop said. He was taken to Pineville, Waldrop said.
Rangel does not have a criminal history in South Carolina, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
Sanchez's funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Westerly Hills Baptist Church.
